What is DNS?
Domain Name Service is a way of providing unique names for web sites.
Think about a situation where all the roads and houses are named as unique numbers, such as C701, C702, M31, M8 and etc.
These numbers do not make any sense to anybody until someone tells you this is Monash Freeway, this is Hume Freeway and that is Anderson Road and etc.
Domain Name Service is doing exactly that. Data packets will be sent all over the Internet using IP addresses for destinations, similar to road numbers and house addresses.
However as human beings, we prefer to associate objects with names to make them easier to remember. DNS will specifically translate unique network addresses to their unique names. For example, 203.132.130.13 is www.yahoo.com or 69.16.16.19 is www.google.com.
