Can I password protect particular pages on my site?

There are various ways to protect pages on your web site.


There are many solutions available to password protect pages to restrict access from users. Simple methods involve Javascript and various other types of scripting to achieve this, except these are not as secure as server-side solutions. Here is a simple and secure method of password protecting your pages as it uses encrypted passwords.

  1. Log into the WavyPanel panel with your login details.
  2. Along the left hand menu under WavyPanel, find the item called Others, click it to bring down more items.

    OR


    Click WavyPanel modules.
  3. Click Protected Web Directories.
  4. Click Find existing protected directories under:
  5. Once it’s done searching, you may find it has added a few more items to the list.
  6. Above and below, there is a bar with the option Add protection for a new directory. Click it.
    • Click on Add protection for a new directory

  7. Type your directory path OR select the file using [...] button next to the textfield.
  8. Complete the list of options to protect the directory. Adjust settings as you need them, otherwise leave settings on default. Authentication realm will be what shows up in the in the login prompt. e.g. "Admin Area".
    • Find which files or directory you want to protect

  9. This will create the files neccessary for protecting the files / folders you wish. You will need to make users to login to the page to view it.

To allow users to log into your protected page, you will have to make them usernames and passwords. Do the following:

  1. Log into the WavyPanel panel with your login details.
  2. Along the left hand menu, find the item called Others, click it to bring down more items.
  3. Click Protected Web Directories.
  4. If you made your files previously, you will be able to add a new user to that protected file / directory by clicking add a new user.
    • Click Add a new user

  5. Fill in Username & Password, and select whether you want the account enabled or not.
    • Fill in the details for the account

To remove protected directories:

  1. Log into the WavyPanel panel with your login details.
  2. Along the left hand menu under WavyPanel, find the item called Others, click it to bring down more items.

    OR


    Click WavyPanel modules.
  3. Click Protected Web Directories.
  4. Select the tickbox of the folder you want protection removed from.
    • Click Un-Protect Selected Directories

  5. Click Un-protect Selected Directories.
